The Wichita Journalism Collaborative launches with initial financial support from two organizations:

Solutions Journalism Network

The Solutions Journalism Network awarded a $100,000 grant to the collaborative through the Local Media Project, funded by The Knight Foundation. The Solutions Journalism Network’s mission is to spread the practice of solutions journalism: rigorous reporting on responses to social problems. They seek to rebalance the news, so that everyday people are exposed to stories that help them understand problems and challenges, and stories that show potential ways to respond.

The Wichita Community Foundation

As part of its news and information initiative, The Wichita Community Foundation has supported the launch of the Wichita Journalism Collaborative through various learning opportunities, including travel grants to national conferences for interested media and community partners to learn journalism initiatives and innovations around the country. The Foundation sponsored local workshops to bring journalists and community partners together and have created a space at Revolutsia where collaborative leaders and partners can come together to work.
